Sound Object for Societal Impact

Two days of symposium (September 11 and 12, 2025) organized by Ircam on how design, guided by sound, can become a lever for societal transformation.

The Sound-Driven Design symposium (September 11–12, Ircam, Paris) offers two days of conferences, dialogues and workshops to explore how sound-guided design can become a lever for societal transformation.

Friday, September 12 at 9 a.m., Emile De Visscher, from Centre de Recherche en Design - ENS Paris-Saclay / ENSCI - Les Ateliers) will give a lecture entitled “Ecologies of Making: A Question for Society”, as part of the theme Societal Impact of Design.

Emile De Visscher has a background in engineering (MA Mechanical Engineering, UTC, 2012) and design (MA Innovation Design, RCA, 2014), and began his research work within the SACRe doctoral program at PSL University with an academic affiliation at ENSAD. His thesis, defended in 2018 and entitled "Technophanic Manufactures", explored the conditions for inventing technical processes that can be appropriated by the greatest number of people. He then served as an associate researcher and manager of the "Material Form Function" research group at the "Matters of Activity" Cluster of Excellence at Humboldt University in Berlin between 2019 and 2023. Since 2023, he has joined the CRD team as holder of the Junior Professor Chair "Design for Ecological Transitions" at the École Normale Supérieure - Paris Saclay.

Also on the agenda:
- How to integrate sound into design methods
- The role of sound technologies in our daily lives
- The societal impact of sound design
