Le Gall Apolline

Affiliate researcher, co-founder of the agency Où sont les Dragons. Management science (management and innovation), public innovation, design and organisations.

Research
  • Design strategy and materiality from a socio-technological and political perspective based on the notion of “valuation”: her research interrogates the role and effects of design within complex and immaterial territories including the design of organisations, of law (legal design), services and public action, exploring in particular the role of materality, its integration and use within a network of concerned actors, and the strategic perspective of design. [Sociology of valuation, sociology of translation, strategy, design manegement, border objects, mediating objects]
  • Design and research: Her research is also concerned with the articulation between forms of research and design, whether it is the place of research within social sciences for design projects, and/or the mediation of research by design. These two perspectives open up a space of “research-design” (research-action by design) concerned with experimenting, qualifying or documenting.  [research-action, project, epistemology, constructivism]
  • Design and empowerment: Finally, the third aspect of her research is focused on the capacity of design to make complexity “accessible” and “actionable” for individual and collective actors. There is a particular focus on the notions of empowerment, pedagogy, and mediation. [empowerment, actionable knowledge, pedagogy for design, pedagogy for innovation, mediation]
Biography

Apolline Le Gall is a teacher and researcher whose research trajectory is characterised by pluridisciplinarity. Le Gall completed a PhD thesis on management and innovation, sociology of valuation and the conception of design, which looks at the role of visual representation in the design of innovative services. It is based on a socio-political reading of the process of conception based on the thought of John Dewey (Université Grenoble Alpes - ENSCI Les Ateliers). Following a post-doctoral research project on the different ways design can be mobilised within innovation and pedagogy, she co-founded the research and design agency Où sont les Dragons.

Her research and practice are focused on the design of services, of law (legal design), public innovation, and organisation. It interrogates the role of design in innovation, organisations both public and private, law, and the pedagogy of design.
