1_Creating a common territory | design approaches rooted in rural areas
On October 15, 2025, the CRD will inaugurate its annual cycle of research seminars with a first online meeting dedicated to design approaches in rural areas.
Building a Common Territory
Open to all, this meeting will explore how design can support territorial transformations by anchoring itself in local, participatory, and bioregional practices.
Exploring the Role of Design in Contemporary Crises
The first session, entitled "Building a Common Territory," examines the capacity of design to respond to environmental and democratic crises. How can we design with local stakeholders? How can we reinvent the objects, processes, and attitudes of designers when working in the heart of rural areas?
To shed light on these questions, three guests will share their perspectives:
- Marion Casagrande (INRAE), whose research focuses on agroecological design at the territorial scale,
- Adrien Rigobello (Royal Danish Academy), which develops biomaterials with a logic of local design,
- Tom Hébrard (Atelier paysan, Tiers-lieu La Martinière), practitioner engaged with peasant communities.
A meeting designed as a space for dialogue
Organized and moderated by Juliette Focki (CRD-ERPI) and Aliénor Morvan (CRD-INRAE), this webinar is intended to be a forum for discussion between researchers and practitioners. Beyond presenting work, the aim will be to jointly examine the conditions for a design capable of strengthening the agency of rural communities and experimenting with new forms of territorial cooperation.
This first event of the CRD's 2025-2026 cycle opens the way to a collective reflection on the challenges of contemporary design, between theory and fieldwork, research and experimentation. It's an invitation to think of design not only as a creative discipline, but also as a tool for action and territorial transformation.
