Exploring 21st-century landscapes with Olivier Troff
From November 3rd to 4th, the BiS is hosting an exhibition by Olivier Troff, a designer-researcher at the Center for Design Research. The exhibition accompanies his thesis entitled "Guiding, Probing, Arranging. Prototyping the Collective Documentation of 21st-Century Landscapes." It presents instruments and devices that transform the way we observe and understand contemporary landscapes.
Exploring landscapes through interaction design
Faced with the environmental emergency, this thesis questions how landscapes can be collectively documented to better understand the ecological transformations at work. Olivier Troff develops relational surveying instruments, inspired by optical tools such as the camera obscura, which allow for experimentation with new forms of observation and knowledge sharing. His devices, the cam·, foster a shared bodily and visual language between residents, professionals, and researchers, paving the way for a collaborative and sensitive practice of landscape research.
Fields of investigation in the Champagne vineyards in Gennevilliers
His work is based on two fields of investigation: the Champagne vineyards and Gennevilliers, in Greater Paris. In Champagne, he studies how soil and limestone cultivation influence the perception and transformation of the landscape.
In Gennevilliers, he leads mediation workshops with residents and local stakeholders to question the place of landscape in daily life.
These experiments show how design can become a tool for understanding and action in the face of environmental change.
